Expecting better covid19-related conditions, Activate Cyprus decided to move the Skoda Cyprus Gran Fondo one month after what was initially planned. The organizer of the first European round of the UCI Gran Fondo World Series for 2021, announced yesterday the new dates of the event that will be held from April 23 to 25 in the region of Pafos.
The decision to move the race was taken as it is expected that come springtime, the epidemiological picture of Cyprus will improve significantly, travel-restrictions to Cyprus will be eased and there will be plenty more airplane connections. The event will be held at the beginning of the Orthodox Easter week, offering participants from abroad the chance to combine great riding in beautiful springtime Cyprus with a bit of culture and tradition.
The popular amateur Cycling for All stage race, which in 2019 attracted more than 500 riders from over 30 countries, is a qualifier for the September 2021 Gran Fondo World Championships in Bosnia & Herzegovina and will be held over three stages with a total length of 245.5km. In 2020 the event was canceled and Activate Cyprus offered the participants the choice to transfer their participation to 2021. New registrations for the 2021 edition have the option to get a full refund in case of cancellation up to two weeks before the start.
Our top priority is always the health and safety of everyone involved in our events especially the cyclists. That's why we have moved our event four weeks later. We feel by then the measures in place will be more relaxed and people will feel more safe to travel.
The event will be organised in compliance to the protocols and instructions of both the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Cyprus and the UCI, which will be in force at the moment.
